Finalist: DAC9881 18-bit DAC (Texas Instruments)

The DAC9881 is the industry’s highest accuracy digital-to-analog converter (DAC). The DAC9881 features 18-bit monotonic performance, +/-2 LSB integral nonlinearity (INL) and +/-1 LSB differential nonlinearity (DNL). The DAC9881 requires no additional circuitry, calibration, or cost to achieve accuracy. It supports a SPI serial interface capable of operating with input data clock frequencies up to 50 MHz. The DAC also combines a low power consumption of 4 mW at 5V and small packaging to allow higher density board layouts. The DAC9881 was developed on TI’s HPA07 high-performance analog CMOS process.

The DAC9881 should interest designers in industrial applications. Both automatic test equipment and process control engineers will benefit from the part’s low linearity error, 18 bit monotonic performance, and integral low-noise output buffer.
