CSR launches automotive Bluetooth development kit

RoadRunner2 is a development platform based on CSR’s BlueCore5-Multimedia Bluetooth silicon and allows OEMs to develop a highly customizable and feature-rich hands-free kit, with minimal time-to-market.

CSR’s RoadRunner2 is the first design to offer Bluetooth version 2.1 + EDR for automotive applications, and includes CSR’s Clear Voice Capture (CVC) echo cancellation algorithm to provide excellent audio quality despite environmental demands. It also supports FM when the hands-free is streamed to the car radio. RoadRunner2 is capable of receiving music from mobile phones or even MP3 players. It can also receive music from different sources such as an SD Card or external plug-In, and transmit to the speakers or via FM to the car stereo system.

RoadRunner2 supports Phone Book Access Profile (PBAP). It can also retrieve phone book entries from mobile phones that do not support PBAP by storing the phone book entries in a Serial Flash memory. The digital signal processor (DSP) is used to quickly show the caller’s name for an incoming call. The BlueCore5-Multimedia chip can also control a screen and a rotary input for added functionality.

CSR’s BlueLab configuration software is included as part of the RoadRunner2 package, allowing designers to easily alter elements of their final product including flash parameters, PIO assignment to buttons, MMI and ring tones.
