EDN’s Designing with LEDs workshop, held in Santa Clara, CA, on April 30, 2009, was the first industry event to address high-brightness (HB) LED design challenges from the viewpoint of the hardware engineer. Power control, thermal management, and optics all affect the cost, efficiency, and lifetimes of LEDs. Lighting control and communication also affect the system cost and usability. The Designing with LEDs workshop had some of the foremost experts in these fields giving keynotes, papers, and workshops.

The event was completely sold out, and we regretfully had to turn away late registrants. We’re publishing the papers presented at the workshop in this e-book to broaden the reach of the workshop and to make the information widely available.
