  • re: the correct spelling of "strain gage". Also much history here.. The inventors and users of the device have used the term "gage" since its inception. The correct spelling of the word has been debated now for about 50 years... Early users still use the original term. There is a very colorful history behind it. Perhaps not as radical as Bob Pease... but similar.

  • More history... The first strain gage was made from the wire taken from a precision resistor.. time .. about 1936,, Inventor(s0 Simons (UCLA) and Ruge (MIT).. First name.. SR-4 (Simons, Ruge, and 4 others in the patent negotiation at the time.. A fascinating history of the device was written by Frank Tatnal...
