  • Rescued analog oscilloscope works fine, still has value
  • I donated the oscilloscope to Artisan's Asylum, a maker space in Somerville, Mass. http://www.eetimes.com/author.asp?section_id=36&doc_id=1331551 Visited there again last night. Scope no longer produces a trace. Given that the scope is all analog (no FPGA or embedded firmware to get in the way), it should be fixable, especially given that the Asylum has the schematic. Best guess right now is that a component, perhaps an electrolytic capacitor, in the CRT power supply may have failed.

  • Who is EDN?
  • Which article? Some of the oldest are missing figures becuase at that time, figures were linked and the links broke during EDN's many transitions.

  • Too many clip leads? Make your own organizer
  • I keep a shoe box on my desk with change/sync cables that I use frequently. Inside the box are a few plastic bags to separate them by type (Apple, micro-USN, mini-USB)/ It does hep me find the cables when needed, if I don't get lazy and just toss them back in the box when finished. My workbench in the basement can use some wire/cable organization. At lease the space AC power cords are in their own box. Computer closet has shelves with assorted cables (USB, Ethernet, mice, etc.) in plastic bags.

  • Home-Made Digital Clock Keeps on Ticking
  • Someone asked me for a larger photo of the clock. Not having a better photo but still having the clock, I took a new photo. To my surprise, the LEDs seem brighter now after having not been used for several years. The LEDs don't need a hood to block out ambient light.
