  • DC Transformer? Forward converter? Isolation amp? You decide!
  • We are lucky enough to have the world where almost any thing can have many purposes! In this case they are enclosed within one discipline, whereas mostly they are far one from another... Look at the nettle, for example. It is a feed for cattle, a feedstock for a soup at spring, and also a means of a reasonable punishment. One more: "the same thing takes out the water and produces your offsprings" - Heinrich Heine "On Teleology"

  • Scoping a filter response – with math
  • The setup seems interesting. How clear the output spectrum is? I sometimes use products of Soundtechnology (SpectraLab). They provide both sweep tone and the FFT math.

  • Capacitor self-diagnostics
  • Thank you for your attitude! For sure the ADC was exactly suitable for the circuit. Should I recheck?

  • I'm ready to agree with you though not visited your basement. It seems very cool place. Probably, sometimes the worst derating factor is the simple label "made in"... IMHO only..

  • The software I'm writing about is not additional. If you have some your gadget with a MP/ADC etc it's not difficult to add this functionality. The most important thing - forewarned is forearmed... As for MP reaction, it depends...

  • Capacitor self-diagnostics
  • Is this a joke - to measure "case temperature, ripple current and peak voltages"? Rather good one :). To collect+keep all these integral values means not a "cost", but a COST! Not to mention a (reliable) hardware needed in this case. :)) And to manage all those new electrolytics in this manager.... Oh, stop, don't! :)

  • Capacitor self-diagnostics
  • May be I'm not so young :), but I still remember the endless cases of motherboard capacitors, not to mention others. Yes, there are el. capacitors which last 20 years or more, nevertheless the problem persists. It seems worth to mention chem. batteries and accumulators and their problems with electrolytes.

  • LED current regulator has low dropout
  • Please notice the feedback thru R1 is _positive_. So the startup problem can be in a not adequate Spice model. The additional resistor will make one thing - it will reduce dynamic resistance of regulator, which is not sky-high itself. As for heating - the current should be rather impressive to get a noticeable heat when voltage drop is so little.
