- Open-source hardware: Are you on board?
- The shift back to open source, and the integrity of the community that was born of it, undeniably has contributed to many of the great leaps evidenced by recent technologies - There is the power of a million minds on a global R/D team. There are some very real issues at hand, and while previously acknowledged, weren't quite as glaring as in the recent past; as marketers and overseas manufacturers inject themselves into the crowd funding community which has launched several thriving companies who exemplify the spirit and intent at the heart of OSHS, it becomes very difficult to distinguish what is true OSH or just a clone. Regrettably, the foundation of trust and goodwill inherent in open source groups has been primed for exploitation by those with questionable intentions. My concerns are the impact that a few bad apples will have on the community if trust and intent are no longer transparent. OSHS provides knowledge, skills and experience freely and willingly across all geographic and economic boundaries - It is changing the way our children learn and closing the historic gaps. OSH paves the way for a new breed of engineers and designers, well versed since a young age to push the innovation envelope further than ever imagined. I believe it is imperative that we protect the integrity of the community and the opportunities it creates.
