As EDN’s executive editor, I have a tremendous respect for engineers, makers, and electronics hobbyists. In the more than 10 years I’ve been with EDN (in some role or another), I’ve enjoyed the opportunities I’ve had to learn from and converse with interesting, intelligent, and outright funny engineers about the innovations that make the world go round. As an award-winning journalist, I manage several blogs and sections of EDN.com and EDN’s e-newsletters including its daily newsletter, EDN Today, and EDN Fun Friday. I also head EDN’s social media and community efforts. Find me on Facebook and Twitter at: deffree.

  • The Edison is not a Raspberry Pi
  • IMHO, asdfasdfsdfsdf, it's because Intel is going outside its traditional community here, aiming at "makers," hobbyists, and others that don't have the knowledge of Tesla and other greats (see page 2 of http://edn.com/electronics-blogs/serious-fun/4434984/World-Maker-Faire--engineering--creativity--and-inspiration). These folks know Thomas Edison as this amazing inventor written up by history (not a thief, conman, and general hustler).

  • Digging the Edison. Saw some great stuff built on it at World Maker Faire. Once you've played around with it more, let us know what you've designed with it: suzanne.deffree@ubm.com

  • Apple Watch: Smart but not smart enough
  • NFC is a positive, but Apple is so late to the game on this. It's a key technology to werables. Really dissappointed overall here by Apple. It's rep will only carry it so far as the wearbles battle for consumers' dollars heats up.
