TI expands line of multichannel buck converters

-August 04, 2014

Texas Instruments’ triple-output TPS65261 and TPS65262 synchronous step-down switching regulators accommodate a wide input supply range of 4.5 V to 18 V for intermediate bus voltages operating off 5-V, 9-V, 12-V, or 15-V power buses or batteries. The TPS65261 offers three current outputs of 3 A, 2 A, and 2 A; while the TPS65262 provides 3 A, 1 A, and 1 A.

Housed in 5×5×0.9-mm QFN packages, the DC/DC converters are 44% smaller than previous-generation devices. They offer high efficiency for such applications as digital television, set-top boxes, home gateway and access-point networks, wireless routers, point-of-sale machines, and surveillance equipment. A 0.6-V feedback reference supports processors demanding lower output voltage, while constant-frequency peak-current mode enables system optimization.

The TPS65261 provides 82% light-load efficiency at 10 mA and features an adjustable 250-kHz to 2-MHz switching frequency with pulse skipping. For forced continuous-current operation without pulse skipping, TI offers the TPS65261-1.

The TPS65262 provides fixed 600-kHz switching operation. Two integrated 200-mA and 100-mA LDO voltage regulators simplify board layout. For digital multimedia applications requiring higher current, TI offers the TPS65262-1 with integrated 350-mA and 150-mA LDO regulators.

The triple synchronous converters are available now. Supplied in 32-pin QFN packages, the TPS65261 costs $1.90 and the TPS65262 costs $2.05 in lots of 1000 units.
