Wideband amp furnishes 35 W

-June 14, 2017

Analog Devices’ HMC8205 GaN MMIC amplifier provides high gain and power across an instantaneous bandwidth of 300 MHz to 6 GHz. The part delivers 46 dBm (35 W) of saturated output power with 38% power added efficiency and power gain of 20 dB. This highly integrated amplifier is beneficial in such applications as wireless infrastructure, radar, public mobile radio, and general-purpose amplification test equipment that require pulse or continuous wave support.

The HMC8205 combines DC feed/RF bias choke, DC blocking capacitors, and a driver stage in a 10-lead ceramic leaded chip carrier. In addition to a small footprint, the amplifier requires minimal external circuitry, reducing overall component count and board space. It needs no external matching to achieve full band operation, and no external inductor is required to bias the amplifier.

The HMC8205 GaN MMIC amplifier operates over a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C and costs $469 each in lots of 1000 units. An evaluation board for the HMC8205 is available for $1506.31.
