Ethernet MCUs pack MAC+PHY

-December 03, 2017

TI’s SimpleLink MSP432 Ethernet MCUs employ a 120 MHz ARM Cortex-M4F core with integrated MAC and PHY, as well as USB and CAN interfaces. The microcontrollers also include cryptography accelerators and leverage 100% code compatibility across the SimpleLink MCU platform, speeding time to market for grid infrastructure and industrial automation gateway applications.

The MSP432E411Y’s 10/100 Ethernet MAC features an MII (media independent interface) and RMII (reduced MII), while the Ethernet PHY offers IEEE 1588 PTP hardware support. In addition, the device provides 10 I2C modules with high-speed support; 8 UARTs; 2 CAN 2.0 A and B controllers; USB 2.0 OTG, host, or device; and 1024 kbytes of flash memory employing a 4-bank configuration that permits independent code protection for each bank.

Designers can create a wireless sensor network using SimpleLink wireless MCUs by connecting as many as 50 secure sensor nodes to a gateway. The gateway, based on SimpleLink Ethernet MSP432E4 MCUs, acts as a centralized management console to process and aggregate data and deliver it to the cloud via Ethernet for additional data analysis, visualization, and storage.

MSP432E4 MCUs cost $9 each in lots of 1000 units and are available for mass production.
