Converter packs internal 60 V power switch

-December 24, 2017

Configured as a boost, SEPIC, or inverting converter, Linear Technology’s LT8364 operates over a wide input range of 2.8 V to 60 V. The LT8364 can be used for applications with input sources ranging from a single-cell Li-Ion battery to multicell battery stacks, automotive inputs, telecom power supplies, and industrial power rails.

With an on-resistance of 100 mΩ, the converter’s internal 4 A, 60 V power switch achieves efficiencies of over 95%. It also offers spread spectrum frequency modulation to minimize EMI concerns. A single feedback pin sets the output voltage, whether the output is positive or negative.

Switching frequency of the LT8364 is programmable between 300 kHz and 2 MHz and efficiency is over 90% when switching at 2 MHz. Burst-mode operation reduces quiescent current to just 9 µA, while keeping output ripple below 15 mV pk-pk.

The LT8364 is available in industrial and high-temperature versions. Packaging options include a 4×3-mm, 12-lead plastic DFN and a 16-lead plastic MSOP with 4 pins removed for high-voltage spacing. Prices for the DC/DC converter start at $3.25 each in lots of 1000 units.
