- Home-Made Digital Clock Keeps on Ticking
- Indeed a very versatile clock chip. I made several LED clocks in the late 70's early 80's, but with the 5316 I made a VFD. 12V transformer, one diode, 4 resistors and a pot, 2 capacitors, and presto a clock. Still works, but displays are a little uneven in brightness. Who knew VFD's would become a cult classic? The DG8F displays I used cost $3 each back then as I recall. Not too bad with inflation - $12 today. Wide voltage range on the 5316: 8 to 24 V.
